The conference

The 33rd EASM – The European Sport Management Conference

Date: 9-12 September, 2025
Venue:
Hungarian University of Sports Science,Budapest

Conference theme: Sustainability in Sports Management

The conference will focus on the facts and recent improvements which shape sports management and facility management, with special regards to sustainability. As presented in various studies, budgets went double within2-3 years, not necessarily entailing any major innovation or increased efficiency. Global economy has made logistics more challenging and more expensive as well.

Meeting the consumer is getting challenging, user processes are demanding since the budget got bigger.

It is of key importance to make facility management more efficient and sustainable, and this conference can cater to that need of exchange of ideas, related knowledge and good practices. We all have to consider not only our own future but that of our children and thus support and act for environmental sustainability. As for Sport Management, we wish to have some discussions on how we could achieve sustainability with less travel (training camps, competitions) considering both environmental and financial perspectives.

With bigger expenses and budgets, there is a burden on the sport organizations (associations, federations and sport clubs) to raise their membership fees or have more sponsorships from the government or companies. in order to secure the future athletes can develop as much as technology and the higher expectations they face.

The existing facilities need to be more efficiently used and future construction projects have to apply innovative methods in a way that ensures that 10 staff can maintain and run it instead of 100 employee and the energy costs can be reduced, too. The management of buildings, such as swimming pools, stadiums or ice fields, will have to adopt the view that San Siro Stadium represents: not only one club can use the field for practice and competitions. With this approach, there is a huge environmental and budget benefit that can be utilized for the development and training of athletes and also for raising awareness for the environment.
